RWI workshop inspires young girls to dream big, overcome challenges

RWI workshop

October 12, 2024

Dr. May Ikeora, Executive Director of Raising Women Initiative (RWI), kicked off an empowering workshop for young girls, encouraging them to define their own paths and fearlessly pursue their dreams.

“The choices you make in secondary school can shape your future. You are the leaders of tomorrow,” Dr. Ikeora told the girls, while also commending their teachers for nurturing strong, confident young women.

The event featured an uplifting choreography to Beyoncé’s anthem, Girls Run the World, led by the Louise Marie Stage School. Louise Holloway, CEO of the school, spoke to the girls about using confidence and their voices to drive change.

Motivational speaker Ms. Nkem Offonabo facilitated a session titled Dream Big, which featured inspiring success stories from guest speakers like Miss Nigeria 2021, Mildred Peace, and Engr. Antoinette Uwumarogie, a STEM professional. Both shared their personal journeys of resilience, urging the girls to aim high, with Engr. Uwumarogie emphasizing the importance of women in STEM fields.

A powerful moment came during a Q&A session where the topic of bullying was raised, prompting the facilitators to provide guidance on addressing challenges and the importance of mutual support.

The workshop concluded with an award ceremony honoring the principals of Lagos Anglican Girls Grammar School and Queen’s College for their dedication to nurturing future women leaders. Dr. Ikeora also signed copies of her book Find Her Light for a few lucky students.

Sponsored by Bulk Strategic Reserve and L’Avyanna Skin Naturals, the event left participants feeling empowered, and RWI is already planning the next Raising Girls Summit in Abuja, set for November 2024.
