Spotlighting Remarkable Women and Girls

What If Here Was Enough?

By The Lulu

I used to think arrival was a place.

That peace waited at the next turn,

that joy lived in another city,

that success had a postcode

somewhere not here.

And they said, “You’ll know when you get there.”

So I packed my dreams,

I packed my heart into boxes of “someday.”

Telling myself I’d breathe easier when.

When I arrive.

When I’m seen.

When my voice is heard

When it finally feels like I’ve made it.

But there… kept shifting.

Like a mirage,

it stretched further.

Each time I get there

It’s always just one achievement away,

one validation short,

one more “you did it” before I could rest.

Yet every victory, too small.

Every pause, too early.

Every silence, too loud.

I am tired.

Of chasing a tomorrows that don’t want me back.

Tired of being homesick in my own skin.

Tired of building dreams on sinking sand

And I am tired.

Of waiting for permission to breathe.

Of waiting for somewhere else

to make this version of me matter.

Wait, but

What if here… was enough?

What if today counts

What if the waiting wasn’t wasted?

What if this soil

this cracked, dry, unimpressive ground

was holy ground in disguise?

What if the waiting room

was never a punishment

just an invitation to grow roots

where I am.

They said, “Nothing good comes from here.”

But I’ve seen wildflowers break concrete.

I’ve seen dust hold dreams.

I’ve seen me

standing in the middle of “not yet,”

still building something beautiful.

Maybe change ain’t a place.

Maybe it’s a posture.

Maybe destiny ain’t a distance

it’s a decision.

To stay.

To dig.

To build and bloom

Right here.

So stop chasing the horizon,

and start seeing the sunrise.

So if you ever wonder

whether you’re behind,

whether you missed the turn,

whether your “here” is too small

remember this:

The soil doesn’t define the seed.

And sometimes,

the miracle is that you stayed long enough to see it grow.

This thing you’ve been praying for

is already growing under your feet,

quietly, patiently, waiting

for you to notice it?

Don’t go chasing the light, you are that light

So let it shine

Pick up your ashes and make art

Takes those uncertainties and make them certain things

Because What if… here was just enough?
