Spotlighting Remarkable Women and Girls

FROM THE STREET TO SHELTERS

Love in Action

Valentine’s Day may have come and gone, but the love shared on that special day remains unforgettable. Dadrian Hair and Beauty, in partnership with the Raising Women Initiative (RWI), turned February 14 into a day of kindness, warmth and generosity, reaching out to children on the streets and in orphanages.

This year, love was more than just a feeling, it was about reminding every child that they are seen, valued, and cherished. From small acts of care to gentle words of encouragement, the team demonstrated that love truly lies in the simple, meaningful moments that touch hearts.

The journey began with visits to City of Refuge Orphanage Home; Karonmajigi Community of people with disabilities and God’s Pavilion Orphanage Home, all located in FCT, Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria. There, we shared laughter, joy, and unforgettable memories with incredible children.

At Karonmajigi Community, we met resilient individuals, many of whom face daily struggles yet continue to push forward with remarkable strength. The smiles on the children’s faces as they received their Valentine’s gifts reminded us that love is found not in extravagant gestures, but in the simple acts of care, presence, and giving.

At City of Refuge Orphanage Home, the atmosphere was filled with excitement. The children welcomed us with open hearts, sharing their dreams and aspirations. Their joy was contagious, and in that moment, we were reminded that love isn’t just a feeling, it’s an action.

Our final stop, God’s Pavilion Orphanage, left us deeply moved. Founded by Mrs. Dorcas Taiwo and her husband, she has always been passionate about helping those less privileged. The story behind the orphanage is one of dedication.

During our visit, the team learned about the challenges of managing a privately owned orphanage, from limited space to accommodate the growing number of children to the lack of school buses for daily transportation. Their dream is to provide the children with a better life and, hopefully, a school of their own, so they can focus on building their future without being defined by their past.

Despite these hurdles, the children continue to excel academically, with one even winning a spelling bee competition, a true testament to their potential and determination. Their committed spirit proves that with the right support and opportunities, their dreams are within reach.

Mrs. Taiwo shared an inspiring story behind her mission: “Don’t tell God what to do with you; He chooses what to do with you.” Her words reflect the faith and determination that drive her mission to provide a safe and nurturing environment for these children.

A special thank you to Dadrian Hair and Beauty for their generous donations and support. Their partnership with RWI made this initiative possible, proving that together, we can make a difference in the lives of children who need it most.

As we reflect on a month filled with love, giving, and receiving, we look forward to an even more impactful March.

Let’s keep the love alive, because every child deserves to be seen, heard, and valued.
